“World’s first” 10GE NFV platform promises new IT possibilities for operators

    -

Network solutions provider BATM has launched a 10 gigabit-ethernet (10GE) NFV platform for edge-of-network IT services.

The CloudMetro 100, released by the company’s virtualisation arm Telco Systems, enables operators to provide multiple network functions and services at the edge of the network, allowing them to introduce and deploy new services more rapidly and at lower cost.

Additionally, 10GE capability means the platform is designed to deal with increasing capacity demands and the latest transport technologies, its creators claimed.

BATM also said the platform would allow operators to differentiate themselves from other cloud providers by offering a host of virtualised IT functions beyond basic connectivity services.

Dr Zvi Marom, CEO of BATM, said: “The launch of this platform represents a further milestone in our strategy of focusing on NFV and SDN solutions. The first of its kind in the market, BATM is well-placed to leverage its leadership position to benefit from the industry transition to these architectures.

“With the CloudMetro 100, we are enabling telecom operators to transform their networks to IT-aware networks and to cater for the increasing capacity demands.”

In a statement, Heaving Reading Insider analyst Simon Sherrington said such technologies were in increasing demand, as they allow providers to adopt SDN and NFV technologies without having to invest in new equipment.

He commented: “NFV and SDN fever is gripping the telecom world and the effects of redesigning networks to make greater use of virtualisation and programmable control-plane techniques look set to be felt throughout network operators’ organisations.

“The options newly available to network operators and service providers promise to reduce CAPEX, drive down ongoing OPEX, speed time to market and enable them to launch new services without replacing old equipment. Telco Systems is among the vendors that are well positioned to help telecommunications service providers adopt SDN and NFV technologies and enjoy their benefits.”
