First four cities to benefit are Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa and Dnipro
Vodafone Ukraine has expanded its presence in the country’s fixed telecoms, launching its first gigabit residential fibre broadband service, branded GigabitNet.
Using GPON network architecture, speeds of up to 1Gbps are available to subscribers in the cities of Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa and Dnipro. The GPON technology supports uninterruptible power supply devices connected to the user’s modem to maintain internet connection during power outages.
The CEO of Vodafone Ukraine, Olga Ustinova (pictured), said in a statement, “We continue to implement technological innovations in Ukraine and currently make available a unique data transmission technology that was previously used for our own network facilities. The technology is chosen to ensure the intensive consumption of the internet, which is growing at a geometric rate every day.”
She explained the war has made internet access even more critical than it is normally as people work and study, and support the military from home. Stable communications therefore are a huge boon.
