Vodafone has launched a consultancy service to help enterprise customers explore the benefits of software-defined networking (SDN).
The consultancy is offered as part of a package of services which includes an SDN innovation workshop, SDN readiness assessment, demo and the option for a proof-of-concept or wider deployment.
The launch follows Vodafone’s own research last year which found that more than 60% of UK-based businesses want help to embrace new digital technologies.
SDN for business
SDN is a new approach to designing, building and operating networks that replaces traditional networks, comprising hardware such as routers and switches, with cloud-based technology.
SDN can offer a range of benefits for enterprise customers, Vodafone says. For instance, it provides a single, real-time view and centralised control of an entire network, better enabling businesses to identify and control demand and solve issues before they occur.
A statement from Vodafone explained: “SDN enables organisations to respond quickly changing business needs adding or removing bandwidth and capabilities according to demand. For example, new sites – such as manufacturing plants or branch offices – can be added to the network almost immediately.
” New levels of network automation and control mean SDN typically costs less to manage too. Further, by creating a virtual network environment, SDN can help businesses to manage threats and update security policies more effectively across all sites and devices in real-time.”
