Small cells are a critical means of improving customer experience, the CTO of Proximus has said in an exclusive video interview, but partnerships are essential to ensure they can be installed on the right sites.
Geert Standaert’s operator has been a rarity across Europe in their appetite for rolling out small cells. Most recently it partnered with Cisco to boost indoor coverage for business and residential customers.Â
He said the operator will soon turn to improving capacity as it looks to meet booming demand.
He said: “It’s clear that at a certain moment in time that what you would do on your macro network will no longer be sufficient.”
Standaert also discussed the benefits of small cell technology, along with the challenges operators must overcome to deploy them properly.
Watch the full video interview below. Standaert was speaking at the third annual CTO of the Year dinner. The award was won by Deutsche Telekom’s Bruno Jacobfeuerborn.
Over the coming days, Mobile Europe will publish a range of video interviews with CTOs from operators including Turkcell, Vimpelcom, T-Mobile Czech Republic and with Jacobfeuerborn himself.
