Vi partners Anritsu to deliver ‘superior’ VoLTE

Vodafone’s Indian joint venture reduces mean time to resolution by 30%, achieves “significant savings” and looks to service assurance for 5G

Vi,the telecom operator in India part owned by Vodafone, has partnered Anritsu to provide end-to-end calling for customers on VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Apparently is offers quicker call connectivity and crystal-clear sound.

Vi was formed from a merger of Vodafone’s opco in India and Idea Cellular in August 2018. As of the end of September, Vi had a subscriber base of 219.8 million.

    The trouble with VoLTE

VoLTE’s complex architecture has many multiple nodes and interfaces, making the detection and the isolation of problems – like muted calls and dropped words – difficult. Anritsu’s system promises better visibility with insights across all VoLTE’s dimensions from subscriber to device, network nodes, codecs, and cell-ID speeds their identification and resolution.

Issues are prioritised according to their severity and likely impact on subscribers. The anomaly detection has reduced Vi’s mean time to resolution by 30%, with problems detected in real-time. The root causes of issues are isolated and pushed to relevant team with actionable intelligence.

Anritsu’s suite of cloud-first applications, including eoMind anomaly detection, are deployed in Vi’s Open Universal Hybrid Cloud, contributing to “significant savings” in capex, opex, resources and automation.

    Real-time is key

Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi said,“Real-time anomaly detection across our VoLTE services allows us to proactively detect, isolate, and diagnose customer-impacting issues.

“The solution is widely adopted by our Operations team and significantly improved VoLTE experience of our customers. Partnering with Anritsu has delivered exceptional benefits to our subscribers, and we will extend the successful approach to enhance other services like International Roaming.”

Ralf Iding, CEO of Anritsu Service Assurance said, “Our…ML-based solution leverages closed-loop automation and provides end-to-end VoLTE visualization, aligning to [Vi’s] business objectives.”

He added, “We look forward to our continued partnership with [Vi] and supporting their commitment to delivering superior experience to their subscribers as they move to 5G.”
