Finnish private network operator Ukkoverkot is modernising its nationwide LTE network with Nokia as it looks to improve performance.
The operator has spectrum holdings in the 450MHz and 2.6GHz bands and offers data services to the likes of infrastructure operators, industrial IoT players, the public sector, and consumers and businesses in remote areas.
Work will begin on upgrading the network in the fourth quarter of this year. Nokia said Ukkoverkot will be able to deliver ultra-reliable, high bandwidth services and deliver wider areas of coverage using its 450MHz spectrum.

As part of the upgrade, Nokia will deploy its FastMile solution, a fixed wireless radio antenna that targets home modems equipped with a beamforming antenna.
The vendor said the solution can deliver up to 12 times the coverage and three times throughput than coventional mobile broadband products.
Among the companies who take advantage of Ukkoverkot’s services is Finnish airport operator Finavia. Its CIO Harri Karjalainen said: “We are delighted to be among the first using a private LTE network in Finland, supporting our current and future connectivity needs and strategy at the Helsinki airport – the largest in the country. Ukkoverkot and the Nokia solution currently being rolled out is unique; we expect it to provide unprecedented capacity and resilience for our critical airport services.”
