TIM, Google Cloud to digitalise Intesa Sanpaolo bank and regions

    -

The latest agreement is for Google Cloud to create cloud coverage around Turin and Milan at the bank’s behest, built in TIM’s data centres.

TIM and Google Cloud have signed the final agreements needed to implement the memorandum of understanding signed in May 2020. The intention is to digitalise the bank’s own services and infrastructure, as well as make cloud services available to families and all sizes of business within the two regions. Intesa Sanpaolo is Italy’s largest banking group by market capitalisation.

The project has been reviewed and approved the authorities as required by law, and Intesa Sanpaolo Bank will now migrate a large part of its information system to Google Cloud, which is charged with providing the highest level of security and data protection.

The new cloud node will be built in TIM’s data centres in the cities of Turin and Milan. The initiative is described as an “important step in accelerating the digitisation of the country”.

The three will also open a centre will be opened to provide training in AI and professional support for start-ups via initiatives jointly defined by TIM, Google Cloud and Intesa Sanpaolo.

The two cloud regions will be built according to the environmental sustainability best practices, including carbon neutrality, in compliance with Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s sustainability guidelines, which TIM says it shares.

Carlo D’Asaro Biondo, Executive Vice President – Partnerships, Alliances and TIM Cloud Project, noted, “The agreements…represent an important step forward within the broader project that TIM is implementing…to equip the country with adequate digital infrastructure to grow our businesses.

“The cloud represents a strategic solution for all companies and institutions that will be able to benefit from cutting-edge solutions capable of providing high standards of security and confidentiality.

“Thanks to our data centres and recent investments in cloud solutions and professional services, we are convinced we can make a significant contribution to the enabling of new services that will simplify the public administration and how business is done, at the same time speeding up the spread of the digital culture at all levels.”
