Telia Carrier opened another point of presence (PoP) at the Equinix HK1 data centre in Hong Kong.
The new PoP is intended to improve the local availability of high-speed IP transit, cloud connect, Ethernet and IPX services for operators, content providers and enterprises.
The company says the level of IP traffic moving through the Asia-Pacific region is rising, due in large part to soaring levels of online gaming and video streaming.
The company opened a PoP in Tokyo last September.
Telia Carrier intends to meet this demand in Hong Kong and adjacent markets “through a portfolio of integrated global communications solutions”.
Hong Kong is a key interconnection point and the new PoP allows Telia Carrier to leverage the four other Equinix data centres in the city.
Resilient design
Henrik Almroth, Managing Director APAC, Telia Carrier said in a statement, “The resilient design of our network, coupled with the strength of our relationship with data centre operators in the region, will guarantee the highest quality performance and service for clients in this rapidly growing market.”
Telia Carrier claims to have more than 1,900 customers worldwide, and states the expansion continues its organic growth and points to recent moves into new markets including Mexico and Serbia.
Dyn Research describes Telia Carrier’s backbone network as number one in the world, with more than 280 PoPs and 65,000km of fibre across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
