Telenor Global Services has signed up Oracle’s Tekelec diameter signaling router to support international network roaming for data and 4G services.
Diameter signaling messages are growing rapidly as data usage increases, requiring advanced signaling technology to properly manage network traffic.
This new solution will deliver interoperability and interworking as the central point in Telenor Global Services’ network to relay diameter messages across operators’ networks.
TGS supplies services to 170 mobile and fixed operators around the world, including parent Telenor Group.
Further, it will enable national and international roaming and over-the-top (OTT) services, such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) for partner service providers.
“Interconnection is vital to rapidly expand innovative services such as global video and VoIP, said Bjørn Iversen, Telenor Global Services CEO. “By establishing LTE roaming, we enable subscribers to enjoy and better afford mobile data services when traveling.”
Moving forward, Oracle said the solution will provide the operator with the ability to build software-defined networks and create new mobile data revenue opportunities, such as services for 3G subscribers roaming on LTE networks, sponsored LTE roaming and P2P mobile video interoperability.
“LTE roaming, new devices and OTT applications will help catapult the next generation of LTE services provided by IP exchange providers,” said Tekelec CTO Doug Suriano.
Oracle acquired Tekelec in March in order to broaden its networking monetisation solutions portfolio.
The same month, TeliaSonera became the first operator to launch 4G LTE roaming in Europe.
