Telenor Connexion is developing an energy efficient smart lighting solution for launch by the end of this year.
The M2M/IoT specialist is teaming up with lighting manufacturer Leading Light to work on the new product, which will form part of the latter’s ActiveLights range.
Previous ActiveLights products, which include solar-powered motion activated intelligent lights, have been deployed on pavements, bus stops and car parks.
Leading Light, which has targeted energy companies and local authorities for its products, will use Telenor Connexion’s Cloud Connect service to design the new solution.
The Norwegian operator said it had worked closely with Leading Light on hardware design, information management and user experience.
The two companies said they hoped the new product would reduce running costs and provide customers with information services.
Niclas Perkman, CEO at Leading Light, commented: “Hardware design, data communication and application development are all critical parts in the solution. Partnering with Telenor Connexion has helped us reduce development time and also provides us with a solid foundation for new innovative services.”
Marie Gustavsson, Regional Sales Manager Nordics at Telenor Connexion, added: “We are very happy to be able to support Leading Light in developing this connected lighting solution. The energy efficient solution, and the environmental goals it supports, really taps into one of our core business values: sustainability.
“By using and exploring new ways of smart technology we can develop sustainable solutions with minimal impact on the environment.”
Earlier this year, Telenor Connexion partnered with Telit and Allianz Telematics to work on a means of ensuring optimal performance of IoT devices.
The three companies built upon GSMA guidelines that laid out how networks should be built to transfer data in the more efficient way.
