Telenor has selected NEC to handle the latest stage of its IP/MPLS network modernisation program across Norway and Sweden.
The vendor will provide routing, switching and security equipment, as well as technical support and maintenance services.
It will also handle the migration of services in a turnkey arrangement with the operator.
NEC will be responsible for running the IP/MPLS network for the next five years, which Telenor said would ensure it could deliver a five nines quality service to customers, delivering IP-based services.

Telenor Norway was a big winner in last year’s spectrum auction. It spent NOK585 million (€62.9 million) on 2x10MHz of 1800MHz spectrum.
It has also signalled its intention to switch off its 2G and 3G networks during the next 10 years, as it moves towards an all-IP network.
The operator is aiming to cover 99 percent of Norway’s population and 82 percent of its land mass with LTE by the end of next year.
In September last year, the operator signed up NEC, as well as Juniper and Infinera to provide transport network solutions across its global operations.
