Telekom Albania strikes Ericsson deal for network upgrade

    -

Telekom Albania has selected Ericsson as the sole supplier to modernise its radio and core networks in a five-year deal.

Ericsson will upgrade Telekom Albania’s network capabilities to ‘gigabit LTE’ (speeds of up to 1 Gbps) while also making the network 5G-ready. A new virtualised core network will also be deployed with the aim of enhancing customer experience.

The deal was announced during Telekom Albania’s One Vision event, where the operator outlined its 2020 vision.

    Network modernisation

Emil Georgakiev, CEO of Telekom Albania, said, “Our strategic goal is to become the first choice for Albanian users when it comes to mobile communication services. This means ensuring a superior customer experience. We believe that a full network swap and modernisation is the right way to start this journey.

“We believe in Ericsson’s abilities to deliver on time and with high quality and their best of breed approach allows us to capture opportunities today while at the same time preparing us for future ones as well,” he added.
