Telefónica has created a new global Chief Digital Consumer Office (CDCO) as part of its five-point transformation plan, announced in November.
Led by Chema Alonso (pictured), previously Telefónica’s Chief Data Officer, the unit will focus on digitising and simplifying sales processes and customer relations, as well as driving innovation throughout the company.
Consumer focus
The Office will create new data-driven smart home products and services as well as “innovating in new customer relationship models” through virtual assistant Aura. Alonso’s group will also promote network innovation internally and work with external start-ups and entrepreneurs.
The team alongside Alonso will include: Francisco José Montalvo, Chief Data Officer; David del Val, director of Core Innovation; Antonio Guzmán, director of Digital Home; and Fabio Bruiggioni, digital consumer director. Irene Gomez’s Connected Open Innovation network will also become part of the new CDCO.
Telefónica’s transformation plan is based around five strategic areas:
• a focus on key markets (Spain, Brazil, United Kingdom and Germany);
• the creation of Telefónica Tech to drive the growth of IoT/big data digital services, cloud and cybersecurity and attract investors;
• the creation of Telefónica Infra to “increase the value of telecoms assets and accelerate growth”;
• the operational spin-off of the Hispam division, pulling Telefónica’s opcos in Latin America, apart from Brazil, into a single unit; and
• a new organisational model.
