Telefónica completes enterprise SDN/NFV PoC with NEC, NetCracker

    -

Telefónica has completed a wireless area network (WAN) proof of concept with NEC and NetCracker, aimed at providing SDN/NFV-based VPN services for enterprises.

The end-to-end solution enables the delivery of VPN services over virtual customer promises equipment, which can be triggered via a self-care portal.

The technology allows employees to securely access corporate networks on public cloud servers. Once accessed, the solution provides access to VFN settings and establishes the required firewall and web content filtering policies for the enterprise network.

The PoC includes a full orchestration and self-care stack from NEC and NetCracker, integrated with Telefónica’s virtual infrastructure solution. This includes virtual network functions such as a virtual SSL termination gateway and virtual firewall.

Telefónica claimed that the technology would allow it to reduce its service provisioning time “from weeks to minutes and manage customer requests in real time” once it is sent out to customers.

Eduardo Guardincerri, Service Development & Planning Director at Telefónica Business Solutions, said: “The rising complexity of the WAN Network is a significant drain on our time-to-market KPIs. That is the primary reason to invest in Proofs of Concept, to address this important challenge.”

NEC and NetCracker, which recently combined their SDN and NFV abilities under a new brand, completed a vCPE proof of concept with Portugal Telecom in May.

Meanwhile, Telefónica is currently looking at how virtualisation will sit within the Internet of Things with Alcatel-Lucent.
