Telefónica is aiming to speed up application development, connectivity and analytics capabilities of its Internet of Things networks by deploying a new platform for enterprises.
Software company PTC’s ThingWorx IoT platform will add to Telefónica’s Smart Device Service, which enables device and management capabilities and helps customers set up connected applications and services.
The operator said by integrating ThingWorx’s platform, it would offer more effective capabilities to enterprises and reduce the time and cost of deploying and earning from IoT networks through its series of IoT specific applications and capabilities.
Its Smart Device Service is also integrated with Telefónica’s Smart M2M platform, which provides its customers with visibility, control and management of its IoT network.
Vicente Muñoz, Chief IoT Officer, Telefónica, said, “This agreement positions Telefónica as one of the key players in the IoT arena providing first-class services to our worldwide customers. Furthermore, it complements our leading Smart m2m Solution, a best-in-class platform to manage and control IoT communications developed entirely by Telefónica.”
John Stuart, Divisional Vice President, ThingWorx Partner Development, PTC, said: “Telefónica choosing ThingWorx as its IoT platform of choice reinforces the value of offering rapid application development, connectivity, and analytics capabilities in a single package. By working with Telefónica, we can bring the power of the Internet of Things to more companies around the world and help them transform the way they do business.”
Last month, Telefónica Business Solutions signed a deal with connected car provider Automatic to provide it with a global SIM provisioning and management platform.
