Telecom Egypt signs national roaming agreement with Orange Egypt

    -

Pooled resources minimise costs, maximise infrastructure

Telecom Egypt has signed an agreement to use Orange Egypt’s national roaming services after putting the job out to tender. The five-year agreement, reported in Africa Tech, extends until the end of 2027. Telecom Egypt said outsourcing the work allows it to concentrate on providing high-quality voice and data mobile network coverage to its customers nation-wide.

This deal comes after the expiration of Telecom Egypt’s existing agreement and Orange Egypt submitted the best value, in terms of finances and technical returns, it said. This new agreement provides a number of competitive, technical, and commercial advantages that will boost the development of Telecom Egypt’s services and enhance its position in the Egyptian mobile market, it claimed. According to Africa Tech’s correspondent Bob Koigi it was the current outsourcing agreement, which ends in December 2022, that enabled Telecom Egypt to introduce its mobile services for the first time in 2017.

“This step confirms the depth of the strategic relationship between Telecom Egypt and Orange Egypt, and both companies’ keenness to develop the telecom services in the Egyptian market,” said Adel Hamed, Telecom Egypt’s Managing Director and CEO. The efficiency of outsourcing facilitates ‘financial savings’, which will be passed on to the customer in 2023 and pull off the difficult trick of improving profit margins while growing the customer base. “Telecom Egypt is committed to expanding its mobile network coverage by rolling out its mobile sites all over Egypt,” said Hamed.

The strategic cooperation between both companies helps them both provide the best possible ICT services to the Egyptian market, according to Yasser Shaker, Orange Egypt’s CEO and Managing Director. “Orange Egypt is keen on driving up investments to develop and modernize its networks in line with the latest global technologies to meet progressive customer needs,” said Shaker.
