Swisscom will stop offering its Storebox cloud storage service for business customers.
A report from inside-it.ch notes that Swisscom sent an email to its customers informing them that the Storebox service was being discontinued and can no longer be reordered or customised.
Storebox was launched in 2012 and touted as a Swiss-based business alternative to Dropbox.
Island solution
A spokesperson from Swisscom is quoted as saying: “There are now a large number of solutions that can be integrated into company IT, so we refrain from a further development of an island solution.”
Swisscom will offer existing customers support for Storebox until 2020 and says that, where requested, it will help users migrate to other options such as Office365 and OneDrive.
The company said the move does not affect its overall cloud strategy but rather consolidates its focus around the development of Swisscom’s own clouds (such as Dynamic Computing Services and Enterprise Service Cloud) and managed services for global public clouds (such as Azure and AWS).
