SpiderCloud launches new 3G dual-band node

    -

SpiderCloud has announced it will launch further trials on dual-band LTE radio nodes this summer, as it starts commercially shipping the 3G version of the same product.

The vendor said recent tests with operators that used the LTE node saw a downlink average throughput of 56.5MBps and a call drop rate of 0.4 percent.

Radio nodes were deployed inside buildings to serve enterprise customers. Other findings in the trial were an average call set-up success rate of 99.5 percent and handover between E-RAN success rate of 99.9 percent.

Spidercloud, which has installed small cell networks for both Vodafone UK and Vodafone Netherlands, used its enterprise radio access network (E-RAN) in the trial, which can control more than 100 self-organising small cells.

The dual-band 3G/LTE radio node supports 32 3G/HSPA+ channels, 32 active LTE users and Voice over LTE. It can operate on the 1900MHz, 1800MHz, 1700MHz, 2600MHz and 700MHz LTE bands and the 2100MHz, 1900MHz and 850MHz 3G bands.

Michael Finlayson, SpiderCloud’s Vice President of Systems Engineering, commented: “In these LTE trials, our E-RAN networks are surpassing even some of our most impressive 3G performance metrics, delivering better access capacity and therefore creating an overall better user experience in the small cell network.

“With each Radio Node having its own dedicated capacity for fast user access, a dual-band E-RAN system will need fewer Radio Nodes to connect more devices more often, as compared to a shared antenna system.”
