SK Telecom is working with Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung Electronics to advance 5G and 6G technologies.
The companies plan to conduct joint research and development activities around 6G and aim to develop draft technical requirements and new business models for 6G.
Further, SK Telecom will work closely with the partners to further develop and advance the commercialisation of 5G technologies, including ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC), enhanced multi-input multi-output (MIMO), differentiated 28GHz technology, and standalone (SA)
5G networks.
“Through strengthened cooperation with Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom will be able to secure the world’s best 5G quality and lead the way towards 6G mobile network communications,” said Park Jin-hyo, Chief Technology Officer and Head of ICT R&D Center of SK Telecom.
Finland is also getting a head-start on 6G. The University of Oulu is running the 6G Flagship research programme, with €251 million in funding between now and 2026.
It is calling for companies interested in 6G to join the research programme as collaborators.
6G Flagship research is focused on wireless connectivity, devices and circuit technology, distributed computing, and services and applications.
