Low-power IoT player Sigfox has launched a seamless connector between devices using its network and the Fiware platform, which it said will allow developers to to build IoT applications faster.
The Fiware platform, which has been developed by more than 40 organisations and the European Commission, provides APIs for developers to produce smart applications. It also allows users to track data from an IoT sensor, like temperature, pressure, location and humidity.
The new open-source connector will allow developers to use Sigfox-ready devices with Fiware software, allowing them to gather data.
Last month, Samsung said it was integrating Sigfox’s protocol into its Artik platform, in a bid to help developers build low cost and low power IoT modules.
Thomas Nicholls, Executive Vice-President of Communications at Sigfox, said: “By accessing the Fiware ecosystem, app developers can create IoT applications and services very quickly and increase their impact, due to the usage of Fiware standard APIs. This partnership also underscores Sigfox’s commitment to open-source platforms and to working with multiple partners for the benefit of our network operators and their customers.”

In March, Orange and Telefónica said they were among the partners in a Fiware-based smart cities project. Fiware said at the time that it was broadening its focus to Latin America.
