BlackBerry is set to acquire enterprise mobility player Good Technology for $425 million (€381 million) in an effort to expand its cross-platform enterprise mobility management (EMM) offering.
The company said the takeover of Good would allow it to develop an end-to-end mobility platform that offers enterprise applications for any mobile device on any operating system.
The acquisition brings to BlackBerry the Good Dynamics platform, which provides app-level encryption, data loss prevention and secure inter-app communication. More than 2,000 apps are currently available for the platform, BlackBerry said.

BlackBerry also stands to benefit from Good’s expertise in iOS, Android and Windows Phone OS management, which it will combine with its own strength in the BB 10 platform.
The company said its aim was to support the growing number bring-your-own-device and corporate owned, personally enabled business models by developing a solution that “secures the entire mobile enterprise, across all platforms”.
John Chen, BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO, said: “By acquiring Good, BlackBerry will better solve one of the biggest struggles for CIOs today, especially those in regulated industries: securely managing devices across any platform.
“By providing even stronger cross-platform capabilities our customers will not have to compromise on their choice of operating systems, deployment models or any level of privacy and security.
BlackBerry said the acquisition of Good, which is still subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be completed by the end of the company’s 2016 fiscal Q3 (November).
Christy Wyatt, Good Chairman and CEO, said: “Enterprise customers today demand stringent security and the most flexible platform across all mobility strategies. We are excited to join BlackBerry, where together we will be the most comprehensive mobile platform in the market.”
