Orange services, tech to feature in landmark Qatari smart city project

    -

Orange’s enterprise arm will provide a range of services and technologies to a flagship smart city development in Qatar.

Managed services provider MEEZA has selected Orange Business Services to help it with a regeneration project covering homes and businesses across 31 hectares in Doha.

Msheireb Downtown Doha is the self-styled “world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project” with an overall €5 billion budget.

The France-based telco will oversee the design of the District’s Smart City Central Command Center, which controls the operation of buildings and services, including security cameras, street lighting and automated waste collection.

It has also been tasked with designing and operating a range of applications, such as online payments, in addition to rolling out smart meters and providing indoor geolocation infrastructure.

The operator said the deal was a “multimillion dollar” contract.

Saad Sabah Al Kuwari, Chief Marketing Officer of MEEZA said: “This partnership marks the start of a new era in the development of smart cities across the region and beyond.

“It brings about local domain technology knowledge coupled with leading multinational expertise.

“We are truly delighted to partner with Orange on this landmark project, which will leave a longstanding impression on the regional and global scale.”

Béatrice Felder, Senior Vice President, Orange Applications for Business, added: “Orange Business Services is delighted to partner with MEEZA on one of the Middle East region’s most prestigious smart cities projects.”
