Orange launches the first Orange 5G Lab in Jordan

Here’s where the kingdom’s creatives will design the future

Orange Jordan has opened The Kingdom of Jordan’s first Orange 5G Lab at its Orange Digital Village in the Al-Abdali district in Amman. This is known locally as the new downtown and it’s an area that provides the Jordanian capital with its most creative new business ideas. The 5G Lab aims to explore the new cases of this technology and provide relevant training.

The Orange 5G Lab inauguration was attended by the Senior Director of Policies and Information at the Jordanian Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the Vice Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Board of Commissioners and the CEO of Orange Jordan, Thierry Marigny.

This Orange 5G Lab is the first of its kind in Jordan. So far, 16 Orange 5G Lab have been launched, 13 in Europe, 2 in Africa and now there is one in Jordan. Orange said it will continue to launch more to ‘unlock the unprecedented potential of cutting-edge technology’.

Marigny said the Orange 5G Lab is an extension of the company’s continuous efforts to support digital education across Jordan. Orange aims to teach young people the digital skills they need and speed their progress in all sectors, catalysing economy activity.

“The lab comes as we prepare to launch 5G,” said Marigny. The Orange Jordan 5G launch will be supported by the global group’s experience of launching the technology in many countries. “We seek to develop the digital ecosystem and promote innovation for the future by anticipating new opportunities enabled by 5G ahead of its launch,” said Marigny.

Karine Dussert-Sarthe, Orange’s EVP of Marketing, Design and Open Innovation, said Orange’s staff are happy to support the opening of a 5G Lab in Jordan with a programme to support digital transformation and help businesses and innovators create something valuable out of 5G in 16 locations around the world. “We are pleased with the success of hundreds of companies testing and prototyping innovative solutions with us,” said Dussert-Sarthe.

The Orange 5G Lab will provide an open space for established companies and creative start-ups to explore and test new use cases for 5G networks and equipment. It provides expertise and guidance on popular targets such as augmented reality gaming, virtual reality tourism and remote medical consultations, but its experience in this technology could help inventors in whatever direction they want to go, according to Dussert-Sarthe.
