Orange closes Basefarm takeover and hopes for Big Data boost

    -

Orange is hoping to boost its Big Data and cloud strategies for enterprise customers after its Business Services subsidiary completed the acquisition of Basefarm Holding for €350 million.

The deal, first announced last month and subject to regulatory approval, will boost Orange Business Services by bringing new data management, critical application management, big data, and multi-cloud services, the operator said.

A spokesperson added: “This acquisition will complement Orange Business Services’ existing catalogue of offers and will reinforce its strategic position by bringing a new source of expertise and innovative technologies, particularly in data management, the management of critical applications, Big Data and multi-cloud services.

“By joining forces with Orange Business Services, Basefarm will gain a unique opportunity to accelerate growth in public, private and multi–cloud services while benefitting from access to Orange’s global networks and infrastructure.”

Basefarm had revenues of €100 million last year, employs 550 staff, and operates in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria. It also runs a big data oriented subsidiary in Germany, entitled The unbelievable Machine Company. It offers cloud, big data and artificial intelligence solutions.

Speaking last month when the takeover was first announced, Helmut Reisinger, CEO of Orange Business Services, said: “The company’s integration will enable us to significantly extend our Big Data and critical application management services on a rapidly consolidating market.

“In addition to our ability to offer access to public or private cloud infrastructure, it is above all our capacity to propose enriched, automated services to our customers, wherever they are in the world, that will enable us to support companies as they transform onto new, digital models based on cloud-computing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.”
