Nokia Networks is claiming a new network steering manager can solve network congestion and increase an operator’s capacity by up to 10 percent.
The Finland-based vendor said the product can fix the issue of coordinating a multitude of load balancing and traffic steering features that are part of mobile broadband networks comprising products, technologies and layers from a range of different suppliers. It said operators can have as many as eight overlapping radio networks running at the same time.
The steering manager works by directing traffic to the most effective radio network layer, taking into consideration device capabilities and customer service level agreements. It combines 2G, 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi across macro and small cells.
One example of the technology is how operators could ensure customers with high end smartphones could benefit from the best features of the network.
Nokia said the solution provides an automated way of using infrastructure more efficiently and can increase a network’s capacity by up to a tenth. It added that by managing load balancing features more effectively, it can reduce operational effort by up to 70 percent.
