Nokia Networks boosts Liquid Core with Genband solution

    -

Nokia Networks has deployed Genband’s Quantix evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) into its mobile broadband portfolio, which will enable services such as Wi-Fi and VoLTE interworking.

The ePDG will be integrated into Nokia Networks’ Liquid Core portfolio, which is aimed at helping operators to improve its network experience and reduce churn.

Genband said the solution also allows operators to manage seamless network hand-offs and a better experience for voice and data usage as users move between networks.

BG Kumar, Chief Product Officer at Genband, explained: “Combining Genband’s ePDG with Nokia’s Liquid Core portfolio allows operators to take advantage of communications services in Wi-Fi networks, offering their customers the ability to make calls and send messages regardless of where they may be.”

Thorsten Robrecht, Vice President, Nokia Networks, added: “With the evolution of voice and messaging services, like VoWiFi, the combination of Nokia’s and Genband’s solution is an effective way to ensure agility and flexibility for our customers. It allows operators to launch innovative, intelligent solutions while maximizing the value of their networks.”

Among the operators that have recently announced they are readying VoLTE launches are ice.net in Norway, Poland’s Polkomtel and Vodafone Germany.

However, CTOs attending a roundtable at Huawei’s Global Mobile Broadband Forum in Shanghai last week said they were waiting for full LTE coverage before rolling out the service across their networks.
