From March, Dutch operator KPN will offer up to 1Gbps on its fibre network, gradually extending it to 1.5 million consumers, business and wholesale fibre customers in city areas.
The will include Amsterdam (pictured), Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven.
“It’s great that we can give our customers access to a superfast gigabit connection,” said Babak Fouladi, Chief Technology and Digital Officer, KPN. “We will continue to provide top-quality broadband services and to invest in fibre optics until deep into the 21st century so as to ensure that the Netherlands has a secure and fast digital network that meets future requirements as well.”
Fibre expansion
In December, KPN announced plans to connect 320,000 households in Amsterdam with fibre to the home (FTTH), starting early in 2020.
Overall, the company said it will connect 3 million homes by the end of 2021, including the 2 million already connected. The operator says it is in talks with two-thirds of all municipalities in the Netherlands about the installation of fibre, and is currently rolling it out in more than 65 areas.
