Huawei has launched a new cloud based video platform, which supports the likes of IPTV, 4K and LTE broadcast technology.
The vendor’s IP Video Solution 2.0 was revealed this morning. Among the other kinds of video it supports are over the top content, and digital video broadcasting over cable, satellite or terrestrial.
It said the cloud based technology allows users to access content across multiple screens, without having to change their home network between fixed and mobile.
Huawei said the 4K support and OTT content aggregation allows OTT players to target enterprises easier. It said operators can also increase the efficiency of their networks by using service quality management tools that analyse big data.
According to figures from the vendor, 80 percent of total internet traffic will be video during the next few years. Huawei has made more than 50 deployments of its video products globally, serving 40 million customers.
A report from Citrix that was released earlier this month said that video now accounted for more than half of global mobile network traffic. It said five times as much content was being consumed over 4G LTE networks as 3G. Video traffic volume on LTE networks grew by seven percentages points to 52 percent during the past 12 months.
Earlier this month, Qualcomm said user generated content would help drive sales of 4K compatible smartphones, as consumers looked to film higher quality videos.
Huawei has been working with a range of operators on LTE broadcast networks, including a trial of the technology with EE for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a demonstration during the Kieler Woche boating event in Germany with Vodafone.
