In a raft of major new product launches this week, Chinese manufacturing giant Huawei took the wraps off a world first in gigabit data for carriers, a new smart quality initiative and a new ‘soft mobile’ broadband solution.
In what it calls a ‘world first’, Huawei is showcasing its 4-Carrier Aggregation for LTE TDD, using 4A-4 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies, the solution offers operators a 1Gbps data speed for what is claims as being ‘the industry’s best capacity’ via a single remote radio unit (RRU) so that users can expect higher data speeds than ever before on LTE TDD networks.
The new 4-CA LTE TDD solution is part of its GigaSite offering for higher data rates. Using a series of Ultraband Remote Radio Units that can be expanded to four carriers requiring only a software upgrade to achieve 1Gbps data throughput.
Huawei said it had also launched a similar series of Wideband RRUs for China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network. The new 4- CA solution also supports multiple broadband frequencies for rapid network deployment. The 4A-4 MIMO 2-CA for LTE TDD also enables peak data rates for a single end user of 520 Mbps. The company confirmed that the chipset series will launch to support end-to-end LTE TDD CA during 2013.
Meanwhile, Huawei has also unveiled a new ‘SoftMobile’ solution for on-demand and ‘Orchestrated Mobile Broadband Networks’. According to the vendor, SoftMobile is an orchestrated ‘ocean-like’ mobile broadband network that enables network operators to open up new revenue stream via the use of mobile broadband.
Using a common open API as an integral part of SoftMobile to maximize on new business opportunities, SoftMobile’s so-called ‘SingleRAN’ structure is a common hardware platform that supports different standards built upon the SingleRAN platform and via SoftMobile’s open APIs. According to Huawei, apps are given on-demand access to network resources to enable new business models.
David Wang, President of Huawei Wireless Networks commented: “Opportunities and challenges co-exist as MBB enters a rapid phase of development. Mobile operators have shortened their go-to-market roadmaps as service innovation has become faster than ever before. SoftMobile is the key for operators to have networks powered by fast, focused and on-demand capabilities.”
The Chinese company also launched its new SQI solution, a service quality improvement initiative to boost the end-user experience and forms a key part of what Huawei calls its ‘SmartCare’ programme, whereby the SQI component helps operators set up a ‘Key Quality Indicator’ system to reflect experience of its customers through what Huawei calls a ‘unique’ algorithm and its GENEX Nastar platform, offering a QoS strategy for service improvement.
