The UK will be the first market in Europe to test Google’s new smart home and Wi-Fi services.
The Google Home smart speaker, powered by Google Assistant, offers a range of voice-activated services including search, maps, translation, calendar planning and news.
It also allows control of music and household appliances.
These can be accessed through asking questions or giving commands.
Meanwhile, Google Wi-Fi is designed to replace traditional routers. It uses mesh Wi-Fi technology to create a high-powered connection, combining different Wi-Fi points to improve coverage.
Users can introduce multiple nodes on the network to boost connectivity throughout a building.
It comes with an app that allows users to control the Wi-Fi through their smartphone, including pausing the connection.
The product is designed to work with customers’ existing internet providers to boost coverage. It is also an area that UK incumbent telco BT has targeted.
Both of Google’s new launches will be available from 6 April.
Google Home is priced at ÂŁ129 and will be available from Argos, Dixons, John Lewis and Maplin, with EE to follow soon. Google Wi-Fi is priced at ÂŁ129 and is available from the same stores, with Amazon soon to follow.
The two Google products launched in the US last October, following their unveiling at the company’s annual I/O developer conference earlier in the year.
