Fujitsu, Microsoft build agricultural IoT solution

    -

Microsoft and Fujitsu have collaborated on a new IoT project to streamline agricultural production.

Japan-based Fujitsu used its Eco-management dashboard and IoT platform along with Microsoft’s cloud services and Windows 8.1 powered devices to optimise factory working.

The solution uses Fujitsu’s Akisai agricultural cloud product and had been demonstrated at one of its own facilities in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan.

Fujitsu used the IoT solution to show how product quality can be improved, systems can be streamlined and costs reduced. The facility has used IoT to produce low-potassium lettuce at the Aizu-Wakamatsu factory that can be consumed by dialysis patients. Workers can view details about the various plants by connecting their Windows tablets to the cloud.

Fujitsu said it planned to use the management dashboard and Microsoft Azure to analyse a wide range of data and come up with further ways to improve processes.

Hiroyuki Sakai, corporate executive officer, EVP and Head of Global Marketing at Fujitsu Limited, said: “Leveraging the Fujitsu Eco-Management Dashboard solution alongside Microsoft Azure and the Fujitsu IoT/M2M platform, we are able to deliver real-time visualisation of the engineering process for big data analytics to improve the entire production process and inform decision-making.”

Sanjay Ravi, Managing Director of Discrete Manufacturing Industry at Microsoft, said: “We are proud to partner with Fujitsu to enable the next generation of manufacturing business models and services enabled by IoT along with advanced analytics capabilities like machine learning.”
