Etisalat UAE and Emirates Auction have invented an alternative to the traditional 10 digit phone number, the “#TAG”. it allows customers to link a mobile phone number to a short #TAG, which has more memorable associations, like a birthday or a nickname. The new simplified dialing service follows e&’s recent unveiling of “etisalat by e&” a new brand identity for Etisalat UAE. Though the new name is more cumbersome to type and invites comparisons with ’the artist formerly known as Prince’, it is in line with the Group’s positioning as “the global technology and investment conglomerate that digitally empowers people and societies,” e& said.

The new dialling invention service illustrates the company’s continuous efforts to provide creative offerings that support customer requirements and improve their experience. The hashtag phone identities were auctioned online auction on June 22, 2022, allowing customers to bid on a group of unique digit phone numbers that are only available to Etisalat UAE and Du post-paid customers. These special numbers usually match the numbers pegged to special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries of customers, said e&. “#TAG is not only a unique short phone number, but also an innovative marketing and communication tool,” said Omar Matar Al Mannai, Executive Director of Emirates Auction, “creating a VIP number that is personal to the business sets them apart and draws new customers with ease.”

The auction was open until 22 June on the company’s website and mobile smartphone applications.
