Elephant Talk trumpets Mexican SDN migration

    -

Dutch software defined network (SDN) architecture provider Elephant Talk has moved more than 600,000 prepaid customers of Mexican telco Iusacell onto its virtual platform.

The company’s SDN platform Software DNA 2.0 can deal with up to 10 million customers and also provision 2G, 2.5G, 3G, LTE and CDMA standards. The platform features virtualised software technology and a hosted and outsourced cloud based architecture that allows network and service management features to be run using software.

Elephant Talk said it was providing services to telcos in four other countries. It is also going to work on moving more of Iusacell’s 5.4 million customers onto the virtualised platform during the second quarter of this year. Iusacell is the third largest telco in Mexico and is largely dominated by prepay customers. Adrian Steckel, CEO of Iusacell, said: “We are pleased to have completed the first phase of our migration program. This effort will see millions of existing pre-paid customers, postpaid customers and MVNOs transitioned to the new platform over the next quarter. By the end of 2014, we expect to have over approximately 8 million customers migrated to the Elephant Talk platform.”

Steven van der Velden, Chairman and CEO of Elephant Talk, said: “The migration of the first lusacell subscribers in Mexico is an important milestone for Elephant Talk and will play a critical part in our expected growth for 2014. We are confident in the world class capabilities and clear value proposition that our Software DNA 2.0 solution can provide mobile network operators like lusacell. Our company is excited to support the growth of Iusacell’s user base and increase its service offerings.”
