CommScope has bolstered its indoor connectivity services by taking over small cell provider Airvana.
The all-cash deal for the Massachusetts-based company will see CommScope combine its distributed antenna systems portfolio with Airvana’s range of indoor coverage solutions. The latter has shipped around 1.5 million small cells since it was established in 2000.
CommScope said the broadened portfolio will allow the new look company to address a range of different requirements, from single-operator, single-band, low capacity all the way too multi-carrier, multi-technology, multi-band, high capacity deployments.
Airvana will continue to be headquartered in Massachusetts, with its staff, CEO Richard Lowe, and CTO and co-founder Vedat Eyuboglu all joining the new company.
The all cash deal is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.
Morgan Kurk, Senior Vice-President and Wireless Segment Leader, CommScope, said: “Airvana has differentiated itself in the emerging indoor small cell market through its unique product architecture and innovation. With a 15-year track record of delivering mobile broadband infrastructure products that meet the requirements of Tier 1 operators, Airvana’s carrier-grade embedded software development capabilities are impressive and complementary to CommScope.”
Richard Lowe added: “Combining our capabilities will create an extensive set of indoor wireless solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Moreover, we believe CommScope’s global marketing, distribution and support capabilities will enable us to rapidly grow the business for our small cell products. CommScope’s intent to remain a leader in small cells through technology innovation and their commitment to their workforce makes it an excellent home for the Airvana business.”
Elsewhere this week, CommScope signed a deal to provide Etisalat with a range of radio frequency network solutions for the operator to improve its networks across the Middle East.
