Cisco launches new HD VoWi-Fi products

    -

Cisco has launched a new Wi-Fi product, allowing operators to offer the likes of high definition voice over Wi-Fi calling to its customers.

Its new Universal Wi-Fi range features a full portfolio of 802.11ac products, including its Aironet 1570 and Aironet 1700 series. The vendor claimed the former is the “most powerful and longest-range outdoor 802.11ac access point” available, offering service providers carrier-grade Wi-Fi.

The products use Cisco’s CleanAir and Radio Resource Management technology, which the vendor said reduces interference and ensures users are on the highest quality frequency that is available.

The products also use digital signalling processing-based beam-forming, which Cisco said can maximise the throughput, even on handsets with older radio technology. The vendor claimed both the 1570 and 1700 can offer speeds of more than 1GBps.

Suraj Shetty, Vice President/General Manager, Mobility Solutions, Service Provider Mobility Business Group, Cisco, said: “Voice over Wi-Fi marks a new era for service providers, and Cisco is excited to work with our customers to capture this transformational shift.

“With High-Definition Voice Experience, Wi-Fi becomes a truly integrated feature in the network. It is only with a universal approach to Wi-Fi and to the network that service providers can offer a superior-quality Voice over Wi-Fi experience to their customers.”

Last week, Cisco was named as one of the main beneficiaries of booming demand for carrier-grade Wi-Fi, as more and more companies look to install next generation hotspots.

Among the first customers to have signed up to use the new range is Spanish cable company Telecable. Its CTO, Jesus Perez, said: “We are pleased with our widespread deployment of the Cisco Aironet 1552 and are eager to introduce the Cisco Aironet 1570, which has many of the next-generation features on our roadmap, including high-performance 802.11ac and a 24×8 cable modem.”
