China deploys 5G-powered robot patrols to detect Covid-19 carriers

    -

The robots have five high-res cameras and infrared thermometers that can scan the temperature of ten people simultaneously within a radius of 5 meters.

The Guangzhou Gosuncn Robot Company, which specialises in smart city IoT products and services, has upgraded its 5G-powered police patrol robot to help police officers’ disease prevention inspections.

    People protection

The robots are designed to protect public safety workers from the potential risks of taking temperatures manually.

If they detect high temperature or the absence of a mask, the robots send an alert to the relevant authorities.

All data can be transmitted to a centralised control centre for real-time situational response and decision making.

Moreover, although these robots are self-driving machines, they can also be controlled remotely, reducing human patrols and preventing cross-infection.

The patrol robots are in use at airports and shopping malls in the cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xi’an, and Guiyang.

    Integrated leading edge tech

The robots integrate IoT, AI, cloud computing and big data technologies to conduct environmental sensing, dynamic decision-making, autonomous motion control, as well as behavioural sensing and interaction.

To enable such advanced computing, 5G patrol robots are powered by a high-performance industrial edge computer (MIC-770) equipped with an 8G Intel Core i processor and GPU iModule (MIC-75G20) designed for IoT applications.

This is produced by Advantech by combing the MIC-770 industrial-grade edge computer with MIC-75G20 GPU iModule for AI training and inference.
