Cellnex and Everynet to roll-out IoT networks in Ireland, Italy and the UK

    -

The networks will use Everynet’s LoRaWAN technology, deployed across Cellnex’s mesh of infrastructure.

Spain’s infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom and Everynet, provider of IoT connectivity services, have agreed to the roll-out of new IoT networks in Ireland, Italy and the UK.

They will deploy multiple IoT solutions on the Cellnex infrastructure to serve utilities, agriculture, transport, manufacturing and smart cities.
Industry 4.0 solutions can track or monitor assets throughout supply chains, smart cities and smart parking solutions to help digitalise mobility and optimise the use of public highways and urban space.

    Smart utilities

Smart utility solutions to gather data and monitor resource consumption are seen by the two as an area with perhaps the highest potential.

They can improve efficiency and cut costs for the suppliers and consumer, as well as avoid wasting resources and lessen environmental impact.

They also create a platform for trial and experimental uses that will allow the development of the ecosystem with new future applications.

    Smart cities

Outcomes can include social and facility or environmental management to foster development of smart cities.

This will involve installing sensors and monitoring comfort levels and consumption across multiple environments, indoor and outdoor, in various types of building, and transmitting service and gathering data across wider territory networks.

    Who does what

Cellnex provides an integrated IoT platform for managing and providing real-time (and remote) diagnostics to collate the data. This can be analysed to be acted on predictively or preventively, manually or automatically: the data provider is responsible for managing this service resource.

Everynet will provide and manage the LoRaWAN network infrastructure that will collect the data collection, offering what is says is “a secure, fast and low-cost service to support real-time actions and decision-making”.

    Renewed business models

Cellnex Global’s Commercial Director, Oscar Pallarols, commented, “This is an important step forward…in response to the unprecedented changes that society and global economies are facing. [It is] a first-class connectivity infrastructure at the service of new communication ecosystems that we strongly believe will enable renewed business models.”

“We are looking forward to deploying these new IoT networks in Europe that enable integrators, developers, and telecommunications companies [to] rapidly launch a broad portfolio of IoT solutions…These networks are interoperable with…national networks in France, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland enabling [European Union-wide] roaming,” said Lawrence Latham, CEO of Everynet .
