BT has launched a new SD-WAN offering for large enterprises based on technology from Nokia’s Nuage Networks business.
Agile Connect uses software-defined networking (SDN) to determine the most effective route for traffic to take across a customer’s wide area network, the UK-based operator said.
New sites can be added more quickly and businesses can reduce cost by, for example, reducing their reliance on local technical support, BT added.
The new offering is already live within the networks of “several large global organisations”.
Maria Grazia Pecorari, President, Digital, Global Portfolio & Marketing, Global Services, BT, said: “Agile Connect gives BT customers a very robust SD-WAN at the right price, designed with ease of use and customer experience at its heart.
“It combines the technology of world-class partners and our own expertise in SDN with our global network and cloud services capabilities to bring more control, flexibility, performance and security for our customers.”

BT is the latest European operator to tap Nuage Networks for SD-WAN.
Telefónica and Vodafone signed up to use the vendor’s tech in May and March respectively.
On the other hand, T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom’s enterprise arm, launched an SD-WAN offering based on ngena last week.
According to a June report from researchers at IDC, demand for SD-WAN is booming across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
It predicted revenues from the technology across EMEA will grow at an average of 92 percent per year to hit $2.1 billion by 2021.
