Technology protection company Asurion has developed a security app for Three UK that backs up consumer content on the cloud.
The Three Rescue app, which is part of the UK operator’s wider insurance product, is available to iPhones running iOS7 and above or Android 4.0 and above. Consumers have a 2GB limit to store contacts, photos and videos on the cloud. They can then be downloaded remotely if the smartphone is damaged or stolen. The cloud technology also allows Android devices running the app to be remotely located, locked and wiped.
Margie Waltasaari, Head of Internet Services at Three, said: “Mobile phone insurance has a poor reputation due to slow processes, widespread cover exemptions and low service levels. We believe Three Rescue will address that through a combination of great service and the extra steps we take to help our customers to get their mobile lives back. Three Rescue is a great complement to our new price plans as we continue to offer our customers more freedom and control.”
Three is also offering same-model, next-day replacement for lost or stolen handsets and the cover includes use by friends and family.
The product was launched yesterday by the operator, which is aiming to put 3.2 million customers onto its 4G LTE service by the end of 2014. Currently, 1.9 million Three UK customers have a 4G LTE device and a 4G-LTE enabled SIM.
