Airbus, Cellnex to explore mission- and business-critical comms markets

    -

Good move for towerco now the land-grab phase is over

Airbus and Cellnex have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration in business and mission critical communications in Europe.

Under the terms, Airbus will provide private and public end-user organisations with critical communication solutions through its Agnet platform which allows individual or group voice, video and image communications, geo-positioning and team mapping.

Cellnex will offer all of its sites to collocate equipment and provide services for the deployment, operation and maintenance of networks and applications.

    Add and expand

This means Airbus will be able “to further address” the communications needs of sectors such as public safety agencies, airports, healthcare, utilities and energy in European countries, leveraging Cellnex’s sites, connectivity and services in mission-critical private networks, and expand its enterprise services’ footprint into new countries.

Cellnex leveraged super low interest rates and inflation to acquire the tower estates of many European operators that desperately needed funds to reduce their debt mountains in recent years.

Now those tower estates have mostly been snapped up and interest rates and inflation have soared, Cellnex needs to create new revenues to service its borrowings and generate good return on investment.
