Ericsson has broadened its 5G for Europe programme by launching an incubator space to aid the development of 5G.
The Ericsson Garage is open to operators, enterprises, developers, universities and end users with work to focus upon 5G, cloud, virtualisation and analytics.
The Garage will be hosted in its Budapest complex and will showcase innovation and prototype technology to operators and businesses.
The results will be rolled into Ericsson’s 5GEx cross industry research project, which was launched last month.

The vendor is working with companies including Deutsche Telekom, Huawei, Orange, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and Telenor on the project, which will run until 2018.
Research is broadly focussed on network infrastructure by concentrating on service orchestration through SDN and NFV.
Following the opening of the Hungary Garage, Ericsson said it would launch a Europe-wide competition for developers to create new applications for mobile networks. It promised “high value prizes”, as well as the potential to pitch their idea to Ericsson executives in Budapest.
Valter D’Avino, Ericsson Head of Western and Central Europe, said: “The opening of the Ericsson Garage in Budapest today will expand our 5G for Europe program and give focus to research, innovation and industrial pilots that use next-generation 5G networks as an enabler, creating value and strengthening the competitive position of European industry.”
