Proximus and A-L to tackle in-home connectivity with Wi-Fi, small cells

    -

Proximus and Alcatel-Lucent will work together on small cells and Wi-Fi technology as part of an effort to boost in-house connectivity for Belgian customers.

The Belgian operator is seeking to provide faster access speeds to its customers and is looking to mobile and fixed connectivity through its partnership with Alcatel-Lucent.

The companies said they aim to develop a “new Wi-Fi user experience”, which includes improved self-service capabilities on Proximus’ MyProximus app, as well as better mobile device management.

Proximus and Alcatel-Lucent will also look at how small cells can be used to maximise network capacity and coverage for users and deliver reliable internet access, regardless of a user’s location or the device being used.

Geert Standaert, Chief Technology Officer at Proximus, said: “At Proximus we pledge to satisfy the evolving customers demand by investing in new technologies to offer them the best quality and service. For example, the usage of Wi-Fi at home is increasing and the new apps need faster access speeds.

“Thanks to the long term cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent we can let our network infrastructure evolve to support current and future bandwidth demands and offer our customers an outstanding user experience.”
