Huawei has demonstrated speeds of 450MBps on an IP-RAN based LTE-A solution across three FDD carriers in Hong Kong.
The trial was held with HKT, with Huawei describing the IP-RAN based component of the solution as a “world first”. The Hong Kong operator is using this solution to roll out carrier aggregation across its network and expects its commercial launch on smartphones next year.
Huawei said it has deployed half of the 49 commercial LTE-A networks that were online last year. The vendor is currently working in deployments in London, Seoul and Singapore.
Peter Lam, Managing Director of HKT’s Engineering, said: “Building on our fiber-rich network and leveraging our widest range of mobile spectrum, HKT commercially launched Hong Kong’s LTE-A 300Mbps network in December 2014 by combining two 20MHz spectrum blocks.
“With Huawei’s advanced IP-RAN based CA solution, HKT will be able to get the most from our frequency resources to further raise the bar to LTE-A 450Mbps by combining disparate chunks of 20MHz spectrums from different sites. This will enable HKT to provide more network capacity together with a superior and unparalleled user experience.”
