    TAG to provide M2M SIM platform for firefighting equipment

    Telekom Austria’s machine-to-machine SIM management platform will be used to provide telematics systems for firefighting vehicles, the operator has revealed. 

    Firefighting equipment manufacturer Rosenbauer will use Telekom Austria M2M’s SIMplify solution to connect vehicles to the operator’s central M2M server via GPRS/UMTS. 

    TAG said its M2M platform would provide automatic configuration and administration for Rosenburg’s telematics systems.

    According to the operator, its SIMplify platform allows SIM cards to be connected directly to TAG’s head office via a private network. This allows connections be automated and monitored in real-time and negates the need for “unsecured” local SIM cards, minimising security risks while making system maintenance easier.

    The operator claimed the solution also guaranteed network coverage thanks to access to multiple local networks, making it suitable for “global-scale deployment”.

    Other recent M2M efforts by Telekom Austria include the introduction of Europe’s first smart meter, which was launched at Mobile World Congress earlier this month.

    The operator, which is is currently recovering from the shock exit of CTO Gunther Ottendorfer, has also struck a deal with Porsche to develop connected car services based on the DiBox platform
