Streamezzo announces new release of application development platform

    -

Streamezzo has announced version 3.0, the latest release of its mobile application development platform. Today's announcement empowers developers to create and run the same single source code application on any operating systems (OS), finally breaking the "1 source code for 1 OS" paradigm.

The 3.0 release includes new features and enhancements of each of the three components of the platform required to create, test and publish applications: Workbench (Streamezzo's authoring tool), the Rich Media Server (a J2EE-compliant carrier-grade middleware for managing and upgrading applications) and the Rich Media Client (a cross-platform runtime engine available for all major operating systems, including: Android, BlackBerry, Brew, IPhone, Java, Linux, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile).

Version 3.0 introduces a set of key innovations that combine tools to improve the application development life cycle and also allows developers to unleash their creativity.

The most critical breakthrough in this release is the embedding of Streamezzo's device database and associated Rich Media Clients directly in the Workbench. Developers can now gain real time access to the most up to date supported devices, browse properties (e.g. screen size, OS, camera spec, GPS) while editing application layouts and scripts, and also test and run their applications within the integrated mobile phone emulator. This database is constantly updated thanks to a dedicated repository where Rich Media Clients can be downloaded for over 1000 devices, a number that is increasing rapidly as Streamezzo certifies new devices each month.

Among the new features available to accelerate time to market, a WYSIWYG layout editor enables developers to create user interfaces and animations in just a few clicks and an integrated skins editor helps visualizing graphic assets and allows developers to seamlessly switch from one theme to another (e.g.: From Android to iPhone skins, both available in this release).

Another major improvement dramatically reduces development time and costs: the new adaptation framework. Thanks to this advanced feature, developers can easily visualize their applications with different aspect ratios and validate that the rendering for each selected form factor (e.g.: QVGA, WQVGA, VGA…) preserves the original targeted look and feel.

Finally, the Streamezzo development platform version 3.0 includes an updated graphical interface which brings this product up to the same standard developers expect from the latest advanced native SDK's available in the market today. An integrated and continuously updated Streamezzo Components library provides more than 30 robust, reusable and customizable pieces of code (e.g. carousel 3D, coverflow, video player). These components allow a more rapid development cycle, and enable developers to create mobile applications easier and closer to the latest ergonomic standards.

"In the highly fragmented mobile industry, application providers must target several platforms to increase their market share and revenues," said Cedric Gegout CTO of Streamezzo.  "We've spent the last years with a single motivation: solve the mobile fragmentation issue. With today's announcement, we have reached a major milestone in our mission and developers can create rapidly and easily cross-platform applications with the same design and user experience as native developments".
