3 Denmark readies transport network upgrade for the autumn

    -

3 Denmark is launching a three year project to modernise its transport network through the deployment of 5G ready routers from Ericsson.

Work will get underway in the autumn and is an extension of an existing partnership with the Swedish vendor.

Ericsson will update 3 Denmark’s backhaul by implementing its Router 6000 hardware, software and customer support, a move that it said would prepare the operator for future 5G deployments. The operator has 1.3 million customers.

Kim Christensen, Network Director, 3 Denmark, said: “We are looking forward to continuing our good partnership and relationship with Ericsson with state of the art transmission equipment. This is the next step into the 5G era.”

Arun Bansal, Senior Vice President and Head of Ericsson in Europe & Latin America, added: “[3 Denmark] is establishing itself as one of the 5G leaders in the region and we are committed to helping them on this journey by building the highest quality network that provides an outstanding user experience.”

Last month, 3 Denmark deployed Huawei technology to boost network capacity at the annual Roskilde festival, which attracts 130,000 music fans over the eight day event.

A Single RAN solution with 4×4 MIMO helped expand capacity in the 1.8GHz and 2.6GHz bands.

Earlier this month, Ericsson helped Vivacom in Bulgaria to launch voice over LTE and voice over Wi-Fi.

It also recently helped TIM complete its project to virtualise its radio access network in Turin and is working with Dutch telco KPN on 5G motorway trials.
