Telia, Ericsson, others in 5G push

    -

Telia is working with various partners to drive forward the development of 5G technology in Sweden.

The Swedish telco’s domestic arm is partnering with Ericsson, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and various other outfits on the creation of a 5G innovation arena focused on the testing and development of 5G networks.

This 5G environment will be located at KTH Campus and will enable the telco to test both technology and applications, Telia Sweden’s CTO Mats Lundbäck said.

“Telia will contribute with technical, cutting-edge competence and solutions to ensure that Swedish academia and industry are in the driver’s seat and are able to take leadership in 5G use case development,” Lundbäck added.

Ericsson will serve as Telia’s technology partner, and the telco said it will “also work with different industry players” to create the innovation centre at KTH.

Locating the initiative at KTH “will give our researchers, teachers and students great opportunities to participate and develop an increased understanding of the demands of 5G and future generations [of] telecom networks,” noted Mikael Östling, deputy president of KTH.

“I also think our joint agreement shows that Sweden is good at collaborating, which is something KTH prioritizes,” he said.
