Ericsson launches new service to accelerate enterprise IoT deployments

    -

Ericsson has launched Internet of Things as a service as it seeks to increase the adoption of connected networks.

The IoT Accelerator will launch in Q3 this year and focuses initially on public safety, utilities, transport and smart cities.

It will offer a range of different horizontal platforms with Ericsson’s own services and a third party marketplace where enterprises can connect with partners.

The platforms’ capabilities will include data and device management, billing, connectivity services and analytics. Ericsson said it plans to improve those by adding a self-service portal, a developer environment and software development kit.

The vendor said it would support all major connectivity standards, including NB-IoT, LTE Cat-M1 and EC-GSM-IoT technologies for LPWAN.

Ericsson said it would provide the initial setup of an IoT network, as well as business consulting, app development and maintenance, systems, integration and industry transformation. It will also set up regional business labs to help enterprises.

Orvar Hurtig, Head of Industry & Society at Ericsson, said: “We believe in empowering organisations to connect people, devices and things as quickly and easily as possible. We will initially focus on public safety, utilities, transport and smart cities customers, continuously adjusting to their needs and feedback, and improving ease of use and delivery speed through a DevOps approach to software development. We deliver these capabilities to our customers via the IoT Accelerator.”

Earlier this week, Ericsson set up a collaborative lab with the Brazilian government to help grow IoT networks across the country.
