Giesecke & Devrient to unveil solution for measuring network quality

    -

To coincide with Mobile World Congress, Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is launching a new product that will enable mobile network operators to evaluate and optimize the quality of their networks. Known as "sceme" (subscriber-centric measurement), the solution is claimed to be the first to technically measure what end-users actually perceive, and is the product of a cooperative venture with RadioOpt, a Dresden-based startup specializing in solutions for mobile network operators.

G&D's "sceme" offers mobile network operators a tool for improving the quality of their networks on the basis of data gathered at the mobile devices of end-users. The solution makes it possible to record details of which technical processes in the mobile devices impair the quality and performance of the mobile network. It also allows network operators to establish correlations between the test results, which are indicators of the quality of service (QoS), and the end users' quality of experience (QoE). This innovative SIM card application is compatible with commercially available mobile devices.

The data captured is transferred and stored in anonymous form. "By applying our high data security standards, we can provide the technical parameters to measure what users are experiencing. That's what makes this solution such a unique tool for network operators who see constant optimization as the key to retaining a competitive edge," explains Dr. Klaus Vedder, Head of G&D's Telecommunications division. "The 'sceme' solution helps our customers to identify improvement potential faster and more accurately than was previously possible."

"sceme" analyzes the behavior of mobile devices for voice- and data solutions, and M2M applications in the very environment in which they are used. Mobile network operators can react faster to performance restrictions in their mobile network, which means the solution significantly enhances end-user satisfaction.

Both development and testing of the solution were actively supported by the Vodafone Test & Innovation Center  in Düsseldorf, which provided a test and live network infrastructure for the solution right from the start of work on development.

Giesecke & Devrient will present "sceme" at  Mobile World Congress.
