CoPilot Live launches turn-by-turn navigation for Android phones

    -

ALK Technologies, a developer of navigation and transportation software, today announced that its CoPilot Live satellite navigation system is now available for Android-based mobile phones. It can be purchased and downloaded immediately from Android Market for devices such as HTC Magic, T-Mobile G1 and the new HTC Hero.

CoPilot Live offers turn-by-turn GPS navigation technology and real-time travel information to the Android platform, and users can benefit from detailed voice-guided turn instructions and cutting-edge 3D mapping, helping them to find their way wherever they go.

In common with the Windows Mobile based and Symbian product, CoPilot's  digital street maps are stored on the phone, rather than relying on mobile Internet connectivity for per-trip data. Additional map regions can also be downloaded directly to the device.

A range of CoPilot ‘Live' services, delivered via the phone's mobile Internet connection, are designed to make journeys more predictable, and include real-time traffic alerts, 5-day weather forecast information and a new location sharing service called CoPilot LiveLink.

Michael Kornhauser, Vice President and Managing Director, ALK Technologies' CoPilot division said "The release of CoPilot Live for Android and its availability for download via Android Market is a major milestone in our quest to provide full-featured navigation to the largest possible number of smartphone users. We are delighted to extend CoPilot to Android and, in doing so, help more people find their way easily in-car or on foot."
